Kathryn Luscri is a licensed professional counselor,
professional life coach and
speaker.
As a specialist in addictions,
anxiety, depression, relationships, eating disorders and trauma
recovery, Kathryn was the founder
of the Eating Disorder Specialty Program at Meier Clinics in Richardson. She
taught
"Study of The Family" at Dallas Baptist University and was on the counseling
staff of
Woodmen Valley Chapel in Colorado Springs. Kathryn worked with
Steve Barns and Associates in Denton and has had her own practice
since August of
2003.
As a woman who overcame an eating disorder while in college, Kathryn
understands how difficult overcoming
an addiction can be. “When I began my recovery,” she says, “I
just wanted to get to a point where I could control my eating disorder. I had
no idea that I could actually overcome it. I
haven’t had any desire to use an eating disorder to cope with life’s
problems in years. I’m totally free!”
Kathryn believes that overcoming an eating disorder or addiction is not
about simply stopping the problem. It’s about creatively helping a
person achieve a level of satisfaction and joy in relating to God and others
so that the problem ceases to exist. “It’s
not
about what you lose,
it’s about what you gain.”
“When I began counseling others, I focused on helping people rid
themselves of dysfunctional patterns. Now, I’m starting to take clients
beyond
functionality and into an exciting, abundant life. I agree with C.S. Lewis’ statement
that ‘It’s not that we want too
much. It’s
that we want too little.’”
After participating in trauma recovery, Kathryn began teaching it to
other counseling professionals and pastoral counselors. “Life can be pretty
nasty at
times, but knowing you are always in God's presence can set you free in ways
you would
never imagine.”
